TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County. There’s a theory that your first week of January predicts your whole year. If that’s true, 2026 is looking very bright for us.

This year, I’m leaning into a specific resolution: making this newsletter a bridge for our community. My goal for the Fayette Flyer is to make sure you stay informed, feel connected with events in the community, and feel right at home.

We live in a special place where history and the future meet every day. On one street, you’ll find families who have been on this land for generations. On the next, you’ll find folks who just moved here to work in the airlines or moved into the Town at Trilith to build the next big movie. With the grand opening of Trilith LIVE this month and the new U.S. Soccer headquarters taking shape, there is so much new energy to talk about. But even with all this growth, the heart of Fayette remains the same: it’s about the people who look out for one another.

Whether you’ve lived here for forty years or you just unpacked your first box, thank you for coming along for the ride. Let's see what we can build together this year.

THE DIGEST

City Backs Local Control for E-Bikes and Scooters

In a move to get ahead of evolving transportation trends, the Fayetteville City Council recently passed a resolution supporting the proposed Micromobility Traffic Safety Act. This act seeks to amend Title 40 of the Georgia Code to grant local governments more authority over "micromobility devices," which include electric bicycles, e-scooters, and other small, low-speed wheeled conveyances. As these devices become increasingly popular for short-distance travel and commuting, city leaders want the power to regulate their use on local streets and paths to ensure safety for both riders and pedestrians. The resolution aligns with the city's broader strategic goals for infrastructure and smart growth, providing a framework for how these lightweight vehicles will integrate into the county's existing traffic and trail systems.

“Rock Star” Welcome: Monks Draw Massive Crowds to Fayette

Readers of the Fayette Flyer were told to keep an eye out for a group of saffron-robed monks on Monday’s flyer, but few anticipated the staggering scale of the crowds that gathered to greet them. On Monday, December 29th, what began as a humble trek through Fayette County transformed into a major cultural event, drawing thousands of onlookers to both Peachtree City and Fayetteville in a historic show of local solidarity.

In Peachtree City, the scene early Monday morning felt less like a morning commute and more like a community celebration. Hundreds of residents lined the golf cart paths and Highway 54, some even joining the monks for a 1.25-mile stretch of their journey. At City Hall, Mayor Kim Learnard and State Rep. Josh Bonner greeted the group with commemorative pins and coins, while local members of the Peachtree City Ladies Hiking Club were moved to tears by the monks' message. "It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Mayor Learnard remarked, noting the profound impact of seeing the group travel on foot with their rescue dog, Aloka.

The momentum only grew as the pilgrimage reached Trilith Live for a midday stop. Local officials estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 people converged on the Fayetteville creative hub making it one of the largest turnouts the 2,300-mile "Walk for Peace" has seen since leaving Texas in October. Supporters brought so many donations of food and winter supplies that volunteers had to set up sorting stations to manage the influx. The monks, who are walking to Washington, D.C. to promote global harmony, spent hours chanting and offering "sai sin" (blessed string bracelets) to the sea of supporters before continuing their trek toward Clayton County.

QTS East Campus Expansion: More Land, Fewer Buildings

The Fayetteville City Council has officially approved a significant expansion for the QTS Data Center’s east campus, following the acquisition of three parcels on Veterans Parkway after a previously planned Trilith expansion project fell through. While the total footprint of the campus will grow from 615 to 900 acres, the project actually features a net reduction in structures, moving from 15 buildings down to 13. The new plans include four massive buildings totaling two million square feet and the potential addition of a trade school on-site. Economically, the impact is historic: QTS is projected to become the single largest taxpayer in Fayette County within the next decade, with annual tax contributions expected to exceed $40 million. Addressing environmental concerns, officials noted that the facility utilizes a closed-loop system that consumes only 2,000 gallons of water per day, a stark contrast to the one million gallons used by typical data centers. While the rezoning to "Business Park" is approved, building permits are currently on hold pending the completion of a Development of Regional Impact (DRI) review.
