Good morning, Fayette County,
After watching the forecast last week, I was grateful that the weekend mostly brought rain. I spotted a few large limbs down around town, but from what I saw, we seemed to come through the storm fairly well.
Many events were canceled, but Luft 12 at Trilith carried on. Thousands of Porsche enthusiasts poured in, backing up Veterans Parkway. I’ve seen Trilith host some big events, but this was the first time I’d seen a crowd really put its roads to the test.
I braved the traffic and joined the fun. The cars were impressive, but my favorite part was hearing the conversations change once visitors arrived. Grumbling about traffic gave way to admiration. “WOW this place is so nice!” and “WOW everyone is so friendly here!” were overheard numerous times. That little hometown pride was worth sitting in traffic for.

Blood Drives Help Bring Lifesaving Care to Fayette’s Roadsides
A blood donation in Fayette County can help a neighbor before an ambulance ever reaches the hospital. Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services will hold blood drives October 12 and 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., behind Fire Headquarters at 140 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville. Donations support the county’s Pre-Hospital Blood Transfusion Program, which equips Squad 2 and Squad 10 to administer blood at emergency scenes. With trips to nearby trauma centers taking 30 to 45 minutes, that capability brings treatment closer to patients when time is critical. Launched in August 2025, the program received a 2026 Georgia County Excellence Award. The Fayette Fire Foundation purchased its initial equipment, helping establish a service residents can now support by giving blood.
A Perfect Finish for Flat Rock Football
Flat Rock Middle School finished its football season with a county championship and an unbeaten record. The Tyrone Eagles defeated Whitewater 28–14 to claim Fayette County’s middle school title and complete a 6–0 season. The victory followed a championship-game loss the previous year, giving coach D. Bryant’s team a chance to turn months of spring and summer preparation into a different result. One decisive moment came in the semifinal, when quarterback Landon Connally connected with Aydin Sims for the winning touchdown on fourth-and-one. Connally and Sims were part of an offense that also featured running back James Lewis, receiver Jacob Johnson, and lineman Alexander Holston. Defensive lineman Kiyan Simmons and linebacker Austin Boyd helped lead the other side of the ball, contributing to a championship that rewarded the Eagles’ work on both sides of the field.
123-Suite Hotel Advances on Peachtree City’s South Side
Plans for a four-story hotel behind the Pit Stop off Highway 74 South have moved another step forward. Peachtree City’s Planning Commission voted unanimously September 28 to approve the conceptual site plan for the proposed development at 75 Widget Drive. The 65,680-square-foot hotel would include 123 suites and 135 parking spaces. Its revised layout adds a buffer along the neighboring property after commissioners raised concerns during an earlier review. A connection to Peachtree City’s multi-use path system remains part of the planning process. The owner agreed to work with city staff on the location of a path easement as the project advances through final site-plan review. The vote clears the conceptual stage, with further design coordination still ahead before the proposed hotel can take shape on the city’s south side.
