Over the next few days, you can explore the surprisingly useful world of spiders, pedal through Peachtree City, listen to live music inside a hangar filled with World War II aircraft, browse the farmers market, trade unwanted craft supplies, watch Shakespeare under the trees, sample your way through Trilith, or help package meals for families around the world.

Saturday is especially packed. You could begin with grabbing a free barbecue sandwich at City Center Park, catch an outdoor play in Tyrone, and finish the evening with food and fireworks at Taste of Trilith.

So much for there being nothing to do around here. The harder part this weekend may be deciding what you are willing to miss.

Fifteen new firefighters are headed to departments across Fayette County following the graduation of Recruit Class 54 on August 7. The class included seven graduates joining Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services, five joining the Fayetteville Fire Department, and three joining Peachtree City Fire Rescue. The new personnel arrive as local fire and medical services continue to expand. Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services now has 163 career employees operating from nine stations and provides fire protection across unincorporated Fayette County, Brooks, Tyrone, and Woolsey. Earlier this year, the department also reached a milestone by placing an advanced life-support ambulance at all nine stations.

Two Sandy Creek High School graduates are giving back to the football program that helped shape their careers. Brothers Geimere and Amari Latimer recently presented the Patriots with a $10,000 donation following a preseason practice. Both players are continuing their football careers at West Virginia University. Geimere is entering his senior season as a defensive back for the Mountaineers. Amari begins his freshman year after a standout career at Sandy Creek, where he helped the Patriots win a state championship and earned Mr. Georgia honors. The donation will help support the Sandy Creek football program as it prepares for another season. It also gives the brothers an opportunity to invest in the players and coaches coming through the same program where their own football journeys began.

Eden Fresh Market in Fayetteville is expected to close by Labor Day weekend, bringing an end to the grocery store’s run at County Line Road. The store has stopped taking new shipments and is now discounting its remaining inventory by 20% as it works through what is left on the shelves. The exact closing date could come sooner depending on how quickly products sell. Eden Fresh Market has served customers looking for produce, meat, pantry staples, and international grocery items in the south Fayetteville area. No public reason for the closure has been announced. For now, the store remains open while remaining inventory is sold, with customers likely to see fewer items available as the final weeks approach.

Spiders & Arachnids at Line Creek Nature Area
When: Thursday, August 13, 1:00 PM
What: Peachtree City Recreation and Special Events is partnering with Southern Conservation Trust for a closer look at spiders, arachnids and the important role these often-misunderstood creatures play in the local ecosystem. The program is family-friendly and open to all ages. Admission is free, but registration is required.

Peachtree City Library Evening Book Club
When: Thursday, August 13, 6:00 PM
What: The library’s evening book club gathers for its August discussion of Wool by Hugh Howey. The independently run group meets on the second Thursday of each month and is open to all adults interested in joining the conversation.

Southside Running Club
When: Thursday, August 13, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
What: The Southside Running Club meets for its weekly community run from the Bus Barn in downtown Fayetteville. The route is typically one to two miles, and runners and walkers of all experience levels are welcome.

Atlanta Trek Bike Ride
When: Thursday, August 13, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
What: Atlanta Trek hosts a Thursday evening community bicycle ride beginning at Line Creek Brewing’s Peachtree City taproom. The hour-long gathering gives local cyclists an opportunity to ride together before returning to the brewery.

Live Music: Nancy Davis
When: Thursday, August 13, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
What: Vocalist Nancy Davis performs an evening of live music at Revival Wine Bar. Her repertoire stretches from classics of the 1930s to romantic ballads from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. Davis has more than 45 years of performing experience and is also a retired U.S. Army major.

Ribbon Cutting: The Hummingbird Wine Bar, Market & Venue
When: Thursday, August 13, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM
What: The Fayette Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the official opening of The Hummingbird Wine Bar, Market & Venue. The new downtown business combines a wine bar with a market and event space inside Fayetteville’s former City Hall building. The ribbon cutting is free to attend.

Scud Runner at CAF Airbase Georgia
When: Friday, August 14, 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
What: Scud Runner is an after-dinner speakeasy experience held among the historic World War II aircraft at CAF Airbase Georgia. The evening will include live blues from Cannonball Red & The Head Hunters, candlelit tables and curated tastings from Georgia wineries and distilleries. Guests will enter through a hidden entrance, and representatives from the participating beverage makers will be available to discuss the selections. The event is for ages 21 and older, cashless and subject to a dress code shared with ticket holders.

Ashton Owens at Grazing Here
When: Friday, August 14, 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM
What: Ashton Owens will take the stage at Grazing Here for three hours of Friday-night live music. Guests can settle in for dinner, drinks and an evening performance at the locally owned Peachtree City restaurant.

Barbershop Chats & Barbecue
When: Saturday, August 15, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
What: Fayetteville’s Mental Health Advisory Board is hosting its first Barbershop Chats & Barbecue, a casual community gathering built around conversation, connection and good food. The event is free and open to everyone. Attendees who check in at the advisory board’s booth will receive a ticket for a complimentary Hog Pit BBQ sandwich.

Beginner’s Crochet Club
When: Saturday, August 15, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Crafting Supply Rescue at the Library

The Pink Promise Experience: Fashion Show and Dinner Fundraiser

What: Catch The Promise is bringing together breast cancer survivors, advocates and supporters for an evening of fashion, dinner and fundraising. Proceeds from the ticketed event will help support individuals and families affected by breast cancer. The program has moved to Glendalough Manor in Tyrone.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

What: Local performers are bringing Shakespeare to Shamrock Park with a free outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is the opening performance of a three-Saturday run, with additional shows planned for August 22 and August 29.

Taste of Trilith
When: Saturday, August 15, 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
What: Taste of Trilith will showcase food and drinks from restaurants and retailers throughout the Town at Trilith, along with live entertainment and fireworks at 9:30 PM. General admission is $10, with six tasting tickets available for $20. Proceeds benefit the Alō Farms Foundation and its work addressing food and nutrition insecurity.

Block Party Band at Grazing Here

What: Block Party Band will perform classic rock, pop and R&B favorites from the 1970s and 1980s. The group is known for arranging its sets into blocks of songs from the same artist, band or musical theme.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Event
When: Sunday, August 16, 1:00 PM
What: Community volunteers will work together to package meals for Rise Against Hunger, an international organization that distributes food and other assistance to vulnerable communities. Participants can register for a volunteer position or contribute toward the meal-packaging effort through the event page.

The Flourishing Summit
When: Thursday, September 3, 8:00 AM

The summit will explore how research into human well-being can connect with the people shaping culture and creating stronger communities. Advance tickets are available online.
