Good morning, Fayette County,

Some years, hurricane season feels like an endless cycle of watching the forecast and hoping for the best. This year’s quieter stretch has been a relief, but Tropical Storm Isaias is now strengthening in the Gulf and is expected to become a hurricane as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast. Rain and wind could reach our area this weekend as the system moves inland through Alabama.

While the forecast takes shape, it’s a good time to check the flashlight batteries, charge your devices, and make sure you have water and a few essentials handy. Hopefully, the biggest adjustment will be finding something to do indoors, but a little preparation now can save some scrambling later.

Keep that in mind as you browse the events below, too. Some outdoor plans could change, and organizers may postpone or cancel activities. Check for updates before heading out, and leave a little flexibility in the weekend calendar.

Silver Is Up 402% Since 2020. Gold, 186%

Silver has more than doubled gold's return since March 2020, even after a 53% correction from its January peak.

Our research team sees a familiar pattern. Silver's returns more than doubled gold's from 1974 to 1987. After the financial crisis, silver beat gold five-fold in three years.

The reason is size. In 2025, investors put about $15.6 billion into physical silver and silver ETFs, against $111.2 billion for gold. Small inflows move silver hard.

Silver is also in its sixth straight annual supply deficit. The Ultimate Silver Playbook explains what the team expects next. It's free.

Fayetteville Welcomes the Women’s National Team

Fayetteville’s newest soccer landmark reached another milestone this week: the U.S. Women’s National Team arrived for its first camp at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center. Head coach Emma Hayes is preparing the squad for matches against Spain on October 10 and 13. The camp includes four players receiving their first senior team call-ups, including Atlanta native Evelyn Shores, who won three state titles at Westminster Schools. The senior squad is sharing the grounds with the U.S. Under-23 women, giving coaches a chance to work with both groups at the same location. The center opened in May and has 17 outdoor fields. This week, those fields are bringing established national team players and rising prospects together in Fayette County.

Two Standout Porsches Roll Into Trilith

A pair of restored Porsche 911s is headed to Trilith this Saturday, October 10, for Luftgekühlt 12. Meguiar’s will display the cars near the Town Stage beside the Shipyard. Both come from Sonderwerks, a North Carolina restoration shop, but each has a personality of its own. A gray 1991 model combines styling inspired by a 1973 racing Porsche with a 3.9-liter engine producing 375 horsepower. Its companion, a magenta 1977 coupe, features engine and suspension upgrades, a distinctive ducktail rear spoiler and a refreshed interior. Meguiar’s car-care specialists will also be on hand to answer questions. For local car fans, the display offers a close look at the craftsmanship behind bringing these classics back to life. For more information and tickets, visit the Luftgekühlt 12 website.

Dumos Home Reportedly Bound for Fayette Pavilion

Dumos Home appears poised to fill a familiar storefront at Fayette Pavilion, giving local shoppers another place to browse furniture and home furnishings. The retailer is expected to move into the space most recently occupied by Conn’s HomePlus. Longtime shoppers may remember the same building as a former Bed Bath & Beyond. Dumos Home carries furnishings for living rooms, bedrooms and dining spaces, and already operates stores and warehouse facilities in California. The proposed Fayetteville location would add a new furniture option to the shopping center’s mix of retailers, restaurants and services. An opening date has not been announced. For now, the reported arrival offers an early look at what could be next for one of Fayette Pavilion’s larger vacant spaces.

THANKS!

That’s it for today, Fayette County.

Hopefully, the weather leaves us a little room to enjoy the weekend. But if the outdoor plans fall through, a slow morning at home or catching up with a friend over coffee isn’t a bad backup. Keep an eye on the forecast, check with event organizers, and look out for your neighbors if things get rough.

Thanks for making the Flyer part of your morning. If you enjoyed today’s issue, pass it along to someone who’d like to know more about what’s happening around Fayette County. And if there’s something we should cover, hit reply. I’m always glad to hear from you.

Stay safe and have a great weekend!
