Good morning, Fayette County.

One thing I love about this time of year is how spring turns everyone into an optimist. For a few weeks, we all become the kind of people who believe we are finally going to plant that vegetable garden, pressure wash the driveway, organize the garage, walk more, eat better, deep clean the refrigerator, and throw away the mysterious stack of papers that has been sitting on the desk since sometime last fall.

Spring has a way of making ordinary chores feel like fresh starts. The same task that felt like a burden in March suddenly feels possible when the mornings are warmer, the trees are full again, and the whole county looks a little more alive. Even the deer wandering through the yard seem to be part of the season’s little reminder that things have woken back up.

Maybe we get to all of it. Maybe we only get to half. Maybe the garden becomes two tomato plants, the garage gets one clean corner, and the stack of papers simply moves to a different room. Either way, a little seasonal ambition never hurt anybody.

Fayette County Joins Statewide Level 1 Drought Response

The Fayette County Water System asked customers Tuesday to voluntarily limit outdoor irrigation to two days a week, joining a Level 1 Drought Response declared by Georgia EPD the day before. Even-numbered addresses can water Wednesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses Thursdays and Sundays. The state cited a six-month rainfall deficit of 6 to 12 inches, with much of South Georgia in exceptional drought. Year-round restrictions, no outdoor watering between 10 AM and 4 PM, remain in effect. Water System Director Vanessa Tigert said outdoor watering "places additional strain on our water supply." Conditions could escalate to a mandatory Level 2 if enough rain does not come.
