Good morning, Fayette County.

We are officially in the home stretch. Six weeks of school left, give or take, and you can definitely tell. Field day flyers on the fridge, teacher appreciation sign-ups in your inbox, spring sports winding down, and that low hum of "wait, did we sign up for camp yet?" running through every parent group chat in the county. Hang in there. The calendar is about to shift in a big way. Summer concerts, farmers markets, splash pads, July 4th on the square, it is all right around the corner. The Flyer will be tracking it all for you in the weeks ahead so you can plan the fun stuff without digging through ten different websites.

Someone just spent $236,000,000 on a painting. Here’s why it matters for your wallet.

Late last year, a Klimt sold for the highest price ever paid for modern art at auction.

An outlier sure, but it wasn't a fluke. U.S. auction sales grew 23.1% in 2025. The $1-5mm segment even grew 40.8% YoY.

Now, the S&P, teetering on all time highs, just posted its worst quarter since 2022, oil was up 94% (briefly), and Moody's puts recession odds at 48.6%.

Each environment is unique, but after dot-com, post war and contemporary art grew about 24% annually for a decade. After 2008, about 11% for 12 years.

It’s also had near-zero correlation with the S&P 500 since ‘95.*

Now, Masterworks lets you invest in shares of artworks featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso.

  • $1.3 billion invested across over 500 artworks.

  • 28 sales to date.

  • Net annualized returns on sold works held 12 months+ like 14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8%.

Shares can sell quickly, but my subscribers can skip the waitlist:

THE DIGEST

Peachtree City Approves Limited Open Container Districts

Peachtree City is moving forward with allowing open containers in designated entertainment districts, starting with a proposal at The Avenue shopping center. The policy will allow visitors to walk around with alcoholic drinks purchased on site, though officials emphasize it will be tightly controlled with clear boundaries and restrictions like plastic containers. Supporters say similar districts in other suburban communities have boosted foot traffic, supported local businesses, and created more active public spaces. City leaders stress the rollout is limited and not citywide. Officials plan to monitor how the district performs and revisit the policy later this year and again in April.

Fayetteville's new online utility billing system launches May 4

City of Fayetteville water customers will have a new way to manage their accounts starting May 4, when the city launches an upgraded online Utility Billing platform. The system adds multiple payment options, paperless e-billing, and a quick-pay feature that requires no login — just an account number. Existing accounts transfer automatically, but users must create a new password when the new system goes live. For questions, contact the Fayetteville Water Department at 770-460-4237 or visit fayetteville-ga.gov/billing.

Fayette County's 'Splash Masters' win state water operations title

The Fayette County Water System brought home the gold at the Georgia American Water Works Association's (AWWA) Top Ops Competition, with a team called the "Splash Masters" defeating the defending champions in the final round. The tournament tests water operators on math, system operations, maintenance, safety, lab procedures, and Safe Drinking Water Act regulations. It was the county's third year competing. Their prize: a trip to Washington, D.C. this summer to compete at the national level. "Their dedication and weekly preparation truly paid off," said Susan Lee, production and operations manager.
