TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County.

Valentine's Day is next Saturday, and love is in the air, along with the pressure to figure out dinner reservations and find the perfect gift. But here's something worth knowing: studies consistently show that shared experiences create stronger emotional bonds than material gifts. A walk through one of our local parks, a homecooked meal together, or even just an uninterrupted evening on the couch can mean more than anything you'll find in a store. The gesture doesn't have to be grand, it just has to be intentional. And Valentine's Day doesn't have to be limited to your significant other. It started as a celebration of love in all its forms, and there's no reason it can't still be that. Tell your kids why they matter. Check in on a neighbor who lives alone. Send a text to an old friend you've been meaning to reach out to. Fayette County is a community that already does a good job of looking after each other, this is just a good excuse to be a little more deliberate about it. However you choose to spend it, make it count.

THE DIGEST

Emergency Siren Test Today

Fayette County Emergency Management has postponed the scheduled audible testing of its outdoor siren system, originally set for Wednesday, February 4, due to inclement weather conditions. To avoid any confusion between a routine test and potential real-world weather alerts during Severe Weather Awareness Week, officials have rescheduled the sirens to sound on Friday, February 6, at 9:00 a.m. This brief activation allows the county to verify the system's operational readiness and ensures that all hardware is functioning correctly before the peak of spring storm season. Residents are encouraged to use this rescheduled time as a reminder to review their family's emergency communication plans and to only use 911 for actual emergencies during the test period.

Fayetteville pauses data center development applications

Fayetteville City Council has enacted a 90-day moratorium (temporary pause) on data center development applications, giving city officials time to study potential impacts before moving forward. The decision, made during January's work session, reflects growing conversations across metro Atlanta about the infrastructure demands of large-scale data centers, which require significant electricity and water resources. The moratorium allows the city to develop appropriate regulations and evaluate how such facilities might affect traffic, utilities, and surrounding properties. Residents and developers will have clarity on the city's approach when the moratorium concludes in spring.

GoVille App Launched

The City of Fayetteville has officially launched its first-ever mobile app, GoVille!, designed to bridge the gap between residents and local government through real-time digital engagement. Introduced in early February, the app’s primary feature is a reporting tool built on the SeeClickFix platform, which allows users to pin-point locations and upload photos of community issues like potholes, damaged street signs, or neighborhood maintenance needs. Beyond reporting, the app serves as a centralized hub for city meeting schedules, upcoming community events, and progress updates on major infrastructure projects. By streamlining how information is shared, city officials hope to foster a stronger partnership with the public and ensure that local concerns are addressed more efficiently. The app is currently available for free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
