Good morning, Fayette County,
These cooler mornings and evenings have me opening the windows and letting fresh air fill the house. We’ve finally reached that brief, wonderful stretch when opening a window cools things down instead of inviting Georgia’s humidity to come sit on the couch.
It always reminds me of a story John Adams told about traveling with Benjamin Franklin. In September 1776, they stopped at a crowded inn in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Only one bed was available, in a room barely larger than the bed itself, with no chimney and one small window.
Naturally, they disagreed about the window. America had barely declared independence, and we were already arguing about the bedroom temperature.
Adams wasn’t feeling well and worried the night air would make him sick, so he closed it. Franklin objected, convinced the stuffy room was the bigger problem. Adams reopened the window and climbed into bed to hear Franklin’s explanation.
Franklin then launched into a lecture about air, breathing, and perspiration. Adams fell asleep before it was over. He suspected Franklin drifted off shortly afterward, since his last words sounded half asleep.
Apparently, even Benjamin Franklin couldn’t stay awake through an entire Benjamin Franklin lecture.

Sewer Spill Reaches Nash Creek After Electrical Failure
Fayetteville crews cleaned up approximately 7,800 gallons of wastewater after a blown fuse caused a sewer spill near Winfield Court on Wednesday afternoon, September 23. Some of the wastewater entered nearby Nash Creek, according to the city. Workers traced the problem to the sewer system’s control panel and replaced the fuse to restore power. Crews then cleaned and raked the affected ground, treating remaining sludge to reduce potential health risks. In its September 24 notice, the city classified the incident as a minor spill and said monitoring would continue. Officials did not specify how much wastewater reached the creek or provide water testing results in the announcement.
Art and Music Take Center Stage at Trilith This Saturday
Local creativity will fill Trilith’s Town Centre on Saturday, October 3, when the Makers & Music Arts Festival returns from 2 to 6 p.m. Now in its fourth year, the festival brings together live performances, art demonstrations, interactive activities, and a marketplace featuring handmade work. Participating artists must sell their own creations, giving visitors an opportunity to meet the makers behind their purchases. Food vendors and family activities round out the afternoon, with Town Stage serving as a gathering point for the celebration. Visitors can explore the artwork, pause for a performance, and enjoy the festival at their own pace. Tickets and additional details are available through Trilith’s event listing.
Volunteers Complete Six-Year Restoration of WWII Biplane
Six years of volunteer work have restored a 1941 Boeing N2S Stearman biplane at CAF Airbase Georgia in Peachtree City, preserving an aircraft type that helped train World War II pilots. The project honors the women remembered as Rosie the Riveters, whose wartime labor supported America’s military. That connection extends to the restoration team: women volunteers learned and performed the specialized fabric work used to cover the airplane. The completed restoration marks a milestone for the airbase, although additional steps remain before visitors can take public rides. Airbase Georgia is also preparing for its fleet’s future. At the October 17 Moonlight Swing gala, the organization plans to share details of a hangar expansion intended to improve aircraft storage, maintenance, and preservation while supporting educational programs.

Thanks for reading the Fayette Flyer!
I hope you get a few chances this week to enjoy the cooler mornings, catch up with a neighbor, and make time for something happening around town. An open window and a cup of coffee are a pretty good start.
If you hear about a local event, a new business, or someone doing something worth sharing, hit reply and tell me about it. And if a neighbor would enjoy the Flyer, send it their way.
Have a great week, Fayette County. May your windows stay open and your bedtime lectures stay short.
