TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County.

Love is local, and this Valentine's Day weekend, there's no shortage of ways to show it right here in Fayette County.

You could make it a date night at Trilith LIVE catching October London and Lalah Hathaway, hunt for QR codes during Cupid's Quest in downtown Fayetteville, or spend the afternoon at The Avenue's all-day Valentine's celebration. And if your idea of romance is a quiet walk on the cart paths or a homecooked meal with nowhere to be, that counts just as much.

Remember, Valentine's Day doesn't have to be limited to your significant other. Tell your kids why they matter. Check in on a neighbor who lives alone. Send a text to that friend you've been meaning to reach out to. Introduce yourself to a new face at church on Sunday. Love doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it just looks like showing up for the people around you.

However you choose to spend it, make it count.

Your Neighbors Have Trusted Scotty's Since 1997. Here's Why.

When your AC dies on the hottest day of the year, you don't want a call center. You want someone who picks up the phone, shows up on time, and tells you the truth about what your system actually needs.

That's Scotty's Heating & A/C.

Founded by Timothy S. Scott and based right here in our backyard, Scotty's has spent nearly three decades living by a simple promise: do what we say we'll do, when we say we'll do it, for the price we said we'd do it for. They handle everything from routine maintenance and service agreements to full system replacements. And they serve Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Tyrone, Griffin, and the surrounding areas. Licensed, bonded, and insured. Locally owned and operated out of Turin, Georgia.

Whether you need a quick repair or a whole new system, call Scotty's at
770-383-1894 or email [email protected] anytime, even after hours. You can also visit scottysheatingandac.com for a free quote.

Fayetteville Fire Department Receives $40K Grant for Life-Saving Equipment

The Fayetteville Fire Department received a nearly $40,000 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation on February 2 to purchase new extrication equipment, including a spreader, cutter, ram, and related accessories. The new tools will help firefighters respond more efficiently at car crashes, where every second counts. FFD Community Risk Reduction Officer Stephaene Core said the grant allows the department to finish outfitting its trucks with the life-saving equipment they need. Crew members were recognized for their service during the presentation, which included equipment demonstrations and lunch courtesy of Firehouse Subs.

Fayette County Transportation Committee Explores Potential T-SPLOST for Roads and Safety

The Fayette County Transportation Committee met February 3 to begin early discussions around a potential transportation special purpose local option sales tax (T-SPLOST). The Public Works Director outlined five priority categories for countywide transportation spending: infrastructure preservation, corridor improvements and new road construction, intersection improvements, path projects, and future studies. Chairman Maurice Ungaro highlighted the success of previous SPLOSTs and emphasized resurfacing as a reliable investment. The committee is also updating its 2026 comprehensive transportation plan, which will address traffic impacts from new development and work toward a unified countywide path system. Road widening projects on Ebenezer Church Road, Banks Road, Rising Star Road, and Lester Road were suggested for consideration. Community engagement opportunities including surveys, pop-up events, and webpages are being planned as the process moves forward.

Data center denial heads to Fayetteville City Council on appeal

A proposed data center on Highway 85 North in Fayetteville is heading to City Council after the developer, CHI/Acquisitions LP, appealed a January 27 denial by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The project drew roughly 100 residents to the meeting in opposition and generated more than 12,000 online views of The Citizen's coverage. The property is zoned Business Park, which allows data centers as a permitted use. The appeal hearing is set for March 19 at 6 PM at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Ave. W. The meeting will be open to the public.
