TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County. As the sun sets earlier and the Christmas countdown reaches the single digits, there is a distinct shift in the air this week. It’s that familiar, frantic, yet magical "middle-of-December" energy where our to-do lists are long, but the community spirit is even longer. From the glow of the Gaddy Family’s light display to the sound of golf carts humming toward the next neighborhood holiday event, it’s a week that reminds us how lucky we are to call this part of Georgia home.

While we’re all busy checking off those last-minute gifts, this week’s news is a reminder that Fayette County never slows down. Whether it’s historic milestones on the football field or major shifts in how our local government handles emergency care, there is plenty to catch up on as you enjoy your morning coffee.

Saving Seconds: Fayette EMS Launches New Telehealth Program

Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services is ushering in a new era of emergency response this month with the launch of its Innovative Telehealth Program, a partnership with RightSite Health designed to significantly reduce EMS wait times. National data indicates that nearly 50% of ambulance calls are for non-emergency situations, and this new initiative allows on-scene paramedics to connect low-acuity patients directly with on-demand emergency room physicians through secure video technology. By treating non-emergent cases on-site or directing them to the appropriate level of care, the program can reduce the time an EMS unit is tied up from a traditional two-hour transport window to as little as 14 minutes. Fire Chief Jeffrey Hill noted that while paramedics will still respond to every 911 call, this "RightSite" approach ensures that ambulances remain available for life-threatening emergencies while providing citizens with faster, professional medical consultations right from their homes.

A Historic Season for Whitewater Flag Football

The Whitewater Wildcats girls flag football team made history this week, concluding an unforgettable season with their first-ever appearance in the GHSA Division 3 State Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. On Tuesday, December 16th, the Wildcats faced off against a formidable North Oconee team in a hard-fought battle that ultimately ended in a 31–6 defeat. Despite the final score, the Wildcats' season was nothing short of legendary, finishing with a stellar 22–4 record that included a dominant postseason run featuring three consecutive shutouts against Jackson, Richmond Hill, and Luella. The team's lone championship touchdown came in the fourth quarter when senior quarterback Jaelyn Stanley connected with sophomore Emma Morgan for a 2-yard score. Led by Head Coach Arren Swift and standout seniors like Lynn Thompson, who led the team in total touchdowns and interceptions, and Julia Hudson, the Wildcats have set a new gold standard for the program and solidified their place as one of the elite teams in Georgia flag football.

Biscuit Belly Bringing "Scratch-Made" Sandwiches to The Avenue

The Avenue Peachtree City is set to become a premier brunch destination with the upcoming arrival of Biscuit Belly, a chef-driven, Southern-inspired breakfast concept. This new 3,364-square-foot restaurant will be located at 238 City Circle, taking over the space next to Hobnob, and is officially slated to open its doors in April 2026. Known for its creative "scratch-made" biscuit sandwiches and unique Southern hospitality, the Peachtree City location will feature standout design elements including a signature biscuit-making window and a decorative shimmer wall. This expansion marks the brand's first location in the community and its second in Georgia, following a corporate joint-venture agreement that aims to bring high-quality brunch favorites like "bonuts" (biscuit donuts) and breakfast cocktails to the local area.

Perfect Season: Sandy Creek Secures State Title at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

The Sandy Creek High School football program cemented its legacy as a Georgia powerhouse with a dominant victory in the GHSA Class 3A State Championship on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Playing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Patriots defeated the Jefferson Dragons 27–7 to secure an undefeated 15–0 season. Led by star running back and West Virginia signee Amari Latimer, who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns, the Sandy Creek offense overcame a scoreless first quarter to take control of the game. Meanwhile, the Patriots' "bend-but-dont-break" defense was equally impressive, stifling Jefferson's attack and limiting them to just seven first downs throughout the contest. This championship win marks Sandy Creek's first title since 2022 and further establishes the Tyrone-based school as the first Fayette County program to achieve such consistent statewide success on the gridiron.
