TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend and found a good way to celebrate the moms, grandmothers, wives, and mother figures who keep families moving. If your weekend plans took you up toward Atlanta, you may have caught a break. The much-dreaded I-285 shutdown was called off because of “poor weather.” I’ll admit, I’m still wondering where that poor weather was hiding. My yard could have used it. The grass is starting to look a little tired, and a few of my plants are clearly deciding whether they want to be part of the family or not.

Speaking of Atlanta, we are now officially one month away from the World Cup kicking off. And while the matches may be happening up the road, this is one of those events that could easily spill well beyond the city limits. Hotels, restaurants, traffic, watch parties, visitors, and general summer buzz could all make their way down toward Fayette County in one form or another. That is especially true here, with U.S. Soccer now planting deeper roots in Fayette County. The World Cup feels a little more local than it might have a few years ago.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for local watch parties and community gatherings where folks in Fayette County can get together, enjoy the games, and cheer on Team USA. If you hear of one happening in Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Tyrone, Brooks, Woolsey, or anywhere nearby, send it my way. Big global events are always more fun when there’s a local place to enjoy them.

THE DIGEST

U.S. Soccer Opens New National Training Center in Fayette County

U.S. Soccer’s new national training center is officially open in Fayette County, marking a major milestone for the Trilith area and metro Atlanta’s growing soccer profile. The Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center opened May 7 on a 200-acre campus near Trilith. The facility will serve as the home base for U.S. Soccer’s 27 national teams and about 400 staff members. It includes 17 outdoor playing surfaces, 13 regulation-size natural grass fields, two artificial turf fields, two sand pitches for beach soccer, and more than 400,000 square feet of facilities. Arthur Blank provided the lead $50 million gift for the project, while Chick-fil-A Chairman Dan Cathy donated the land that helped bring the headquarters to Fayette County. Coca-Cola also contributed $5 million, with additional support from several national partners. The new center is expected to become a major hub for American soccer development.

Fayette County Earns Statewide Recognition for Life-Saving EMS Program

Fayette County has received a 2026 Georgia County Excellence Award for its Pre-Hospital Blood Transfusion Program, a Fire and Emergency Services initiative designed to get life-saving blood products to critically injured or ill patients before they reach the hospital. The award, presented by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia and Georgia Trend magazine, recognizes innovative county programs that improve residents’ quality of life. Fayette County was one of six counties honored during ACCG’s Annual Conference in Savannah. The program allows Fayette County paramedics to begin blood transfusions in the field for patients experiencing severe bleeding, traumatic shock, or other medical emergencies where time is critical. That is especially important locally, since transport times from Fayette County to the nearest trauma center can take 30 to 45 minutes. County officials say the program helps stabilize patients sooner and improve their chances of survival before reaching hospital care.

Peachtree City Celebrates Ribbon‑Cutting of New Pickleball Courts

Pickleball officially got a major upgrade in Peachtree City this week. City leaders celebrated the opening of 18 brand-new outdoor pickleball courts at Jim Meade Memorial Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 8. The new courts are part of a larger recreation investment funded through the 2023 SPLOST program and are expected to become one of the city’s busiest athletic amenities as pickleball continues growing in popularity across Fayette County. Residents gathered for the opening festivities, with the first 50 attendees receiving commemorative paddles. The new courts add significant recreation space in Peachtree City and are now officially open for public play.
