Good morning, Fayette County.
Yesterday, June 14, was Flag Day, a time to pause and honor one of the most recognizable symbols of our nation: the American flag. Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.
The idea of celebrating the flag grew over time, especially through the efforts of teachers, civic leaders, and patriotic organizations who wanted Americans to reflect on what the flag represents. One of the earliest champions of Flag Day was Bernard J. Cigrand, a schoolteacher who encouraged his students to observe the flag’s birthday in the late 1800s. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day, and in 1949, Congress made it a permanent national observance.
Flag Day is a reminder not only of our country’s history, but also of the values the flag continues to represent: freedom, unity, sacrifice, and hope. As we look back on yesterday’s observance, we are reminded that the flag is more than fabric and color. It is a symbol of the generations who have worked, served, and sacrificed to help shape the United States we know today.

I’m Retiring With $1.5M: Can I Safely Spend $10k/Month?
You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.
Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?
Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.
The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.
That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.
Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.
Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.
If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.
THE DIGEST
Peachtree City Considers Braelinn Playground Upgrades
Peachtree City officials are considering several options to renovate the playground area at the Braelinn Recreation Center, including both traditional playground designs and a more fitness-focused ninja course. The City Council recently reviewed multiple redesign concepts for the public park. Some proposals feature classic playground equipment such as slides, ladders, jungle gyms, and themed designs, including NASA and dinosaur concepts. Depending on the final design, those options could cost between $500,000 and $1 million. Another proposal would add a ninja-style obstacle course at an estimated cost of $556,000. That design includes rotating cone wheels, a rock wall, hanging platforms, jump boards, a floating bridge, and other challenge features. For now, the project remains under review as the city weighs which design would be the best fit for Braelinn.
Fayette Chamber Hosts State of Education Event
Local education leaders gathered June 4 for the Fayette Chamber of Commerce’s State of Education event, where the discussion centered on classroom challenges, workforce readiness, school funding, student enrollment, and technology use. The event included statewide perspective from the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, followed by a local update from Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Patterson. Patterson highlighted the district’s strong academic standing, including Fayette’s No. 4 placement in Niche’s 2026 Best School Districts in Georgia rankings. He also pointed to long-term issues facing the system, including a gradual decline in student enrollment tied to lower birth rates. Fayette County Public Schools remains the county’s largest employer, with nearly 2,800 employees across 24 schools. Technology was another major focus, with district leaders discussing efforts to reduce screen distractions during the school day.

CIVIL NEWS
Fayette County’s government calendar gets moving right away Monday evening, with two confirmed meetings worth watching. Brooks Town Council meets at 6:30 PM at Brooks Town Hall, giving residents on the county’s south side a direct look at town business, local services, and any issues moving through one of Fayette’s smaller municipalities. Then at 7:00 PM, the Fayette County Board of Education meets at the LaFayette Educational Center in Fayetteville. That one carries extra weight this week because the school board is also scheduled to hold its second public hearing on the proposed FY2027 budget, with final adoption expected during the same meeting.
Tuesday is more civic than crowded. The Fayette County Library Board meets at 4:00 PM. Library board meetings are easy to overlook, but they matter for residents who care about public programming, library services, and how the county supports one of its most-used community resources. Tuesday is also runoff election day, and Fayette County has public election proceedings scheduled around the vote count, including canvassing at the Elections & Voter Registration Office in Fayetteville beginning at 7:00 PM.
Wednesday appears quiet, with no confirmed county, city, town, school board, or authority meetings found for June 17.
Thursday is the busiest day on the calendar. The morning opens with the Fayette County Board of Assessors meeting at 9:30 AM, a useful stop for anyone tracking property valuation and assessment issues. Then the evening stacks up quickly. Fayetteville City Council meets at 6:00 PM at City Hall, Peachtree City Council meets at 6:30 PM at City Hall, and Tyrone Town Council meets at 7:00 PM. Together, those three meetings cover a wide spread of local life: city services, zoning and development questions, public safety, road and infrastructure priorities, and the smaller decisions that tend to shape how each community actually feels day to day.

THANKS!
That’s it for today’s Fayette Flyer. I always like the little in-between stuff around here. The paper in the window before the sign goes up. The parking lot that suddenly gets busy. The “did you hear?” that turns into an actual story a few days later. Half of local news is just noticing the things everybody else drives past.
So when you see something around Fayette County that makes you pause, send it over. It does not have to be polished. A blurry photo, a quick question, or a “what’s happening with this place?” is plenty. Some of the best Fayette Flyer items start exactly that way. And if you know someone who likes being the first person in the group chat with the local scoop, forward them this issue.
I’ll be back in your inbox Thursday. In the meantime, follow Fayette Flyer on Facebook and Instagram for the stuff that pops up between emails.
Have a great week!
